Special 150th anniversary copies of Invictus are available from @discoverdecrypt. There are also a small number of very special copies of the poem signed by the winning South African captain Francois Pienaar, which will be auctioned soon to raise money for the church. 3/3.

The poem was written by William Ernest Henley from Gloucester, who was a pupil at @TheCryptSchool. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the poem being written. So you could say that today is 'Invictus Day'. 2/3.

On this day 30 years ago, South Africa won the Rugby World Cup Final, beating New Zealand. Their victory inspired the film 'Invictus' starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, named after the poem read each day by Nelson Mandela when in captivity. 1/3

During the quiet moments when on Polling Station duty on Thursday (and there were a few!), I managed to have a proper read of @cummingsradio's book 'Glorious Gloucestershire', which I'd only managed to skim read before. I'd highly recommend it!

It was a pleasure to introduce one of the sessions at the @GlosHistFest Spring Weekend at @GlosBlackfriars yesterday, about Eleanor of Provence and Medieval Gloucester, and to be in the audience for another of the talks about three of Gloucestershire's great houses.
