But here’s the bigger point everyone ignores: In many parts of the world, women don’t even have the freedom to step outside their house. Forget metros at 3 AM or even 3PM even daylight mobility is a privilege.

Many of us never had a colonial mindset. Ever. And we will not slavishly follow anyone, indigenous or otherwise. What is important is critical thinking, not accepting anyone’s belief system mindlessly. National or international.

In Paris as a student. Sure, people were richer, the infra was better. But at the intellectual level, was not awestruck by anyone purely because they happened to be from a more developed country. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Not sure why we are told repeatedly that we harbour an inferiority complex, that we must shed the colonial mindset. Many of us never felt inferior. Never. Not even when India’s GDP was much lower. I don’t remember feeling inferior in 1989 when I arrived
