It was exactly 21 years ago today, when cash could no longer be used on any of London's 24,500 buses, in a move that Transport for London said would save them £24m a year. They said a prepaid or concessionary ticket, Oyster card or contactless payment would be needed to travel.

What a glorious day for the start of the Kent County Show 2025 @kentcountyshow. I’ve got so many happy memories of the times spent there. One year the entire @BBCRadioKent stand was turned into a tropical beach, complete with sand, palm trees and a live reggae band!. #HappySummer

The little village of #Paddlesworth near #Folkestone has fewer than 50 inhabitants. Located on one of the highest points in #Kent, the village motto is “Highest Church, Lowest Steeple, Poorest Parish, Fewest People”. #PatsFridayFacts

Today in 1968, The Equals were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Baby Come Back’. The track was written by the extremely talented @Eddy_Grant. The song was covered in 1994 by Pato Banton with Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40, and became a No.1 hit all over again!

The current heatwave reminded me of this CD. It remains unopened from 2008, when I interviewed the French singer/songwriter Charles Aznavour. He was in a remote studio for our chat and couldn’t sign the album so I did the next best thing and asked Michel Poisson. #BitNiche

Maybe the people complaining about the heat and sunshine today, should be reminded of what Nick Miller @WeatherNick posted almost 10 years ago….

Today in 1991 Jason Donovan had his 3rd UK No.1 single with ‘Any Dream Will Do’ a song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for the 1968 musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The tune for this song was originally written for a song called "I Fancy You."

It’s another glorious afternoon in #Kent and my Mother-in-Law’s garden is a riot of colour. As Smashie and Nicey might well have said “It’s all Poppy-doodle-doo-tastic here mate!”

Whilst Glastonbury is in full swing, it’s just been announced that #Devon and #Cornwall have decided to cancel their planned, joint 1960’s & 1970’s Retro Music festival. Apparently the cancellation comes, following a heated row over whether to put The Jam or Cream on first.

It’s exactly 10 years since the final episode of Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Clarkson’s contract was not renewed after an ‘unprovoked physical attack’ on his producer in March 2015. His co-hosts refused to present future shows without him.

Happy birthday to the cashpoint machine! . Today in 1967 the Enfield branch of Barclays Bank, opened Britain’s first cash dispenser. The comedy actor Reg Varney was the first person to make a withdrawal from the “hole in the wall”. There’s an estimated 1,200 ATMs in #Kent today

On this day in 2011 - 8,734 people in fancy dress assembled on Penzance promenade. The Guinness World Records later confirmed that Penzance now held the title for the largest gathering of pirates in one place. It’s high time that the #Sheppey Pirates contested that crown!
