@thezeiders Bill Danoff, not John Denver, wrote the lyrics. The only reason WV is mentioned was he thought the Shenandoah was the dividing line between VA & WV. While he took many trips down I-81, he referenced a specific trip to the greater Botetourt area (Roanoke) as his main inspiration.
