At the same time, internet safety education hasn’t kept up. A lot of younger users aren’t taught basic online safety like boundaries, privacy, or recognizing manipulation. Many parents don't even look through their child's device which is very common unfortunately.

Because of this, a lot of older kid-focused platforms either shut down, changed direction, or became less active. Running a safe space for kids online is expensive and hard.

Safety systems are easy to bypass. Fake birthdays, alt accounts, VPNs — most platforms can’t fully stop it.

The internet itself changed. Kids aren’t just on kid websites anymore — they’re on big platforms like Discord, TikTok, or Twitter where age barriers barely work. Club Penguin, Toontown Online, Fantage, Moshi Monsters, Pixie Hollow, and Free Realms used to be huge but shut down.

Many companies cut moderation teams to save money. Less moderators = more stuff slipping through the cracks.

Predators and bad actors learned how to blend in. They make fake accounts, pretend to be younger, or slowly gain trust in communities meant for kids.

A lot of “kid platforms” used to rely on heavy moderation and simple communities. But the internet got way bigger, and moderation hasn’t kept up.
