What we are seeing in South Korea right now is not just a moving example of democracy but also an important reminder of how strong historical education can empower people to not repeat the worst of its history.

Tartu ülikooli peahoone ees heisatud Taiwani lipp ajas Hiina pahaseks. Mis uudist? Tartus õppiv hiinlasest tudeng informeeris Hiina saatkonda. Aitäh @raivladimirov , et seisate Taiwani omariikluse ja demokraatia eest.

Why did attitudes towards racial mixing changed around early 1930s in Estonia? Brace yourself for a scandalous love story (on many levels!) and global connections in my article for the Estonian cultural monthly Vikerkaar

À fire alarm delayed Baltic independence by a week. But it was a real pleasure yesterday to have @parispychen (@unibirmingham, f: @UCLSSEES PhD) with us for another week of Baltic Politics & Society seminars! Always great to chat in Estonian with my Taiwanese friend, too. 🙂

I had the pleasure to speak to the Estonian Public Broadcasting about my research on eugenics in interwar Estonia. Here is an English translation of the original article in Estonian:

Although eugenics might seem like a distant and grim topic associated with the British in the 19th century and later the Nazis, progressive race science was also present in interwar Estonia.
