My review of Anthony Burgess’s Obscenity & The Arts, on the anniversary of the speech. Thanks to @Review31 and @HoumanBarekat for publishing and @pariahpress @wonnyjalsh for the review copy.
It's 50 years to the day since Anthony Burgess delivered his lecture on ‘Obscenity & The Arts’, which was recently republished by @pariahpress. @JoshMcloughlin revisits this "significant document in the history of literary censorship". https://t.co/LnbE0RsUwP

As we look back on 2025, here’s a list of writing projects completed by Anthony Burgess in 1977.
Anthony Burgess makes a list of work done in 1977, including two completed novels, a biography of Hemingway, a stage musical about Leon Trotsky, various film scripts, articles, music, and 100 pages of the book that became Earthly Powers.
