Roaming counter to counter in CN Tower, finally got an appointment for Surgeon, the same day, not to lie. Got appointment at 2 PM, Dr comes at 6 PM. Waiting for 4 hours with a seriously ill heart patient on an iron chair in winter!

Papa had a heart attack on September 15th this year. Taken to the nearest centre, Gorakhpur, from my hometown, Deoria, in UP. Was diagnosed with blockage in 3 arteries and heart functioning only 20%. Referred to higher centre for further management.

Got back to AIIMS again, tried hard for days standing in the queue. Dr was on leave. No idea when he would come. Next? Wait. Finally Dr comes. After 15 days of wait. Again queue for 24 hours. Dr refers to Surgery. Why now and not then? His heart is functioning 20% only! No idea.

We get back. After a while, we realise disease is very serious and needed urgent surgery. Then why did not Dr refer him to a surgeon? No idea. Roamed in private hospitals for 45 days and realised getting surgery done privately will lead us to sell all what we have, if not house.

Brought him to Delhi late November. My sister stood in queue for 24 hours to get an appointment to see a cardiologist in AIIMS Delhi. Got the appointment. I did not think I'd be able to save him that day, but fortunately, nothing happened.

My grandparents were also terminally ill, my father got ill serving them until death. Now I'll serve my parents until they die, standing in queues in hospitals, and then my children, if I am fortunate enough to exist illness-free and marry, will serve me until I die.

I even know what will happen next. He will ask to get some tests done, and then be back for evaluation. Then I'll run from one counter to another for at least dozens of them to get appointment for the tests. Appointment date will be of a month later.

The moment I saw him in CCU, after surgery, ran out and took out my phone and dialled his number, just to realise later that he is lying on the bed. I share every moment of my life with him right next it happens! Papa is stable, conscious. He conveyed gratitude.🙏🙏

To make it clear, I was provided no special treatment in AIIMS. I never expected that even. Papa needed timely treatment and he got it in Yashoda Hospital by virtue of Dr Prashant and Dr Ayush. No ministry reached out to me and I was not given any priority over others.

Also, I have taken no money as donation from anybody. I never needed it. We were short on funds but managed to bear the entire cost of treatment on our own. Yashoda hospital provided us with some genuine assistance and support. I never needed donation.
