If you’re doing anything with Juniper XML using Rust and quick_xml (reasonably common an performant XML decoder and deserialiser), it could be useful to know that since 0.38 it is now preserving the leading and trailing whitespace. This can be quite significant interacting with.

It’s easy to dismiss IPv6 as a 30-year distraction that has failed to fix any of the deficiencies in IPv4 that we really need in a global packet protocol (end to end QoS, admission control, multihoming etc), obsessing only on inflating address space, removing NAT and allowing.

Intrigued by pqconnect, a new endeavour (from @hyperelliptic @hashbreaker et al) to provide post-quantum protection of client/server network apps (currently on Linux) using a Python-based wrapper layer. Server-based capability is announced using DNS CNAME and clients connect via.

Nice Christmas trip home to visit family brought to an abrupt end when @British_Airways lost luggage LHR-PRG and I am reminded of the continuing fascination with no-contact customer services that big business still seems to have. Exception time is absolutely when you win and

Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend @graciousfilms1 Rubber-Keyed Wonder, a look back at the impact Sinclair and the ZX Spectrum had on the home computer revolution in the UK. Fascinated by @Rich_Eddy and his theory that it was the error-prone and futile process of typing listings.

Seminal Geoff Huston pouring oil onto an already incendiary IPv6 working group at RIPE89, calling their beloved datagram protocol “a 1980s addressing architecture,” (with worse hair!) from the safety of his remote video. Session-based NAT firewalls being set alight and thrown

Anyone flirting with the challenge on deploying code for multiple platforms would do well to study the efforts of @JustineTunney on APE and Cosmo: bending ancient rules of executable format to produce fat binaries that can execute anywhere (thank you @steve_mynott). But the bit I.

Flew with the family on @British_Airways BA856 back to Prague this evening and was given a great reminder of how the human touch can so positively benefit customer service. Tracey, Gail and team made us feel welcome and special and are an asset to the airline.

CVE-2024-6387 innocent log/debug slipped into a signal handler yields RCE @Qualys, with some inspiringly devious techniques on fine-tuning their race exploit with network timing analysis! Bonus points too I think for coining the verb, to malloc()ate! .

I wonder just how many of us owe the curse and blessing of a career in computer technology thanks to the insight, forethought and patience of loving parents? Only hoping that I can guide my children in the same way. May your Babbage rest in peace, Aaron! @networkservice.

Pretty sure I used to be able to solve world hunger on the train home when I had a Blackberry with keyboard. Today’s youngsters may not remember, but with the aid of @fulopke’s innovative MacGyver effort they too can enjoy limitless levels of productivity from their smartphones!

Testament to the modularity and composability of the Linux kernel, which probably makes upheavals of low-level technologies (like C to Rust) all the more difficult because interface and ability to interwork is everything.

That sounds like an incredible amount of chaos to manage, allowing people with the smallest micro causes to effect change without having to take on responsibility for the bigger picture.
