Piping Plover last night at Fort Tilden. Oystercatchers & Plovers are here….so were several dogs on the beach. Please leave your dogs at home as they are a very real threat to beach-nesting birds. Regulations state - no dogs on the beach after March 15. Thx! #protecttheplovers

It’s the time of year when I get really pissed off with irresponsible dog owners who watch with amusement as their off leash dogs chase Oystercatchers and Piping Plovers, preventing the birds from nesting.
Your dog is a shorebird’s worst nightmare. Can anything stop the four-legged beasts from tearing up beach ecosystems?

@BirdCentralPark I remember a time when seeing released zoo animals wasn’t considered a transcendent moment with nature.

Incredibly sad news. Rest in Power Eleanor.
The conservation community & @AMNH community mourn the untimely loss of Dr. Eleanor Sterling. A brilliant & creative mind, a tireless & visionary collaborator, a champion for equity & inclusion, and a devoted mentor, colleague, and friend, she will continue to inspire us, always.

Can any Cyrillic readers with a knowledge of Soviet Union geography help with this locality for Ross’s Gull eggs? I know it’s YASSR (Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic now Sakha) but can’t get the rest.
