"What's the use of saving seeds if we don’t know how to turn them back into plants?" Seed Biologist, Dr Gemma Hoyle is working out what our 'Survive and Thrive' seeds need to germinate – not always easy when it comes to Australia's flora! https://t.co/KX319IzcIx 📷@ANBG

🎵Tis the season for Christmas bells (Blandfordia grandiflora)🎶 Found in swampy coastal areas from Sydney to Brisbane they often flower around Christmas, hence their 'common' name. It is a special treat to find these delicate native beauties in the wild. 📷 Murray Fagg

The Christmas Island frigatebird is into kleptoparasitism! Nothing kinky, it just means it is a bit of a pirate🏴‍☠️and steals food from other birds whenever it can. It is also becoming increasingly rare with only around 5000 individuals remaining. 📷Christoph Moning

You may never see them in person, but isn't the world a better place for having these beautiful blue-tailed skinks in it! A captive breeding program is keeping this critically endangered skink safe until it can be released back into its Christmas Island home. 📷@Parks_Australia

Do you call a gathering of hermit crabs a 'cast', or a 'consortium'? Either way, we are talking about a lot of hermit crabs 🦀! This 'cast' was photographed in @PuluKeeling - one of the iconic National Parks where we support on-ground conservation. 📷 @Parks_Australia

These cuties are Australia's beloved Gang-gang Cockatoo.💗Their 'creaky door' call, and the bright red head and feathered crest of the male bird, are unique. @Booderee NP is one of the special places where the threatened Gang-gang still thrives. 📷June Anderson #conservation

Meet the Orange-footed scrubfowl, 'Megapodius reinwardt', seen here at Kakadu. 'Megapode' means 'big foot' and those big, strong orange legs and feet are used to rake the ground in search of food and to build large nesting mounds in which the hen lays her eggs. 📷parks_australia
