Two principles I generally believe: 1. Opportunities exist at the edge of the Overton window. 2. When your intuition and the data disagree, question the data first.

I think live coding music is going to have a mainstream moment. Been seeing quite a few more people making clips of them live coding tracks lately. Probably at least partly since Strudel is more accessible than TidalCycles (browser based and in javascript).

In Charles Hill’s book “Grand Strategies”, he outlines how literature act as a tutor on matters of statecraft, from Homer to Tolstoy to Proust and beyond. There’s an argument One Piece could one day be as influential in ideas about statecraft and world order as The History of

I’ve long thought that One Piece should be considered one of the greatest stories of all time. Like all great stories, it reflects matters in our world. In Oda’s work, we can interpret perspectives on organizational strategy, statecraft, and in this case, eschatology.

There are two domains where the potential of AI has barely been grazed: physical reality and markets. One requires physical embodiment, the other economic agency. The most interesting work at the frontier is focused on enabling AI in these domains.

There are a lot of assumptions about human prehistory that are supposedly consensus, but less settled than one would think. We have the tools to find out, but we need the will to question these assumptions. For example, what if seafaring is much older than we thought?
Archaeological finds hundreds of thousands of years old have shown human settlement of many of the world’s remote islands, challenging our assumptions of a primitive prehistory. Who were our seafaring ancestors? Read the new article by Tristan S. Rapp @Hieraaetus (link below):

This is partially just because of the attributes of technology businesses that are front and center right now. Large energy/compute buildouts. Commercial research labs. FDE operations to deploy AI in the enterprise. Sales and partnerships with governments. All these attributes

Something that's become particularly pronounced in this era of tech is concentration — making a smaller number of far larger swings. A complex infrastructure partnership. A few key hires. A big strategic investment. Highly involved customer engagements with FDEs. It's probably
