If we split the data by expected duration of the job, we find that the negative effect is limited to short term gigs (3 weeks or less), while the longer jobs are more or less unaffected. [5/]

^that was [3/]. Digging deeper, we find that the decrease was far from uniform. The demand in simple writing tasks (classified as substitutable) decreased by a lot, while the demand for NLP and chatbot developers went up by a lot. In total, the estimates average to ~0. [4/]

In a difference-in-difference setting, we find that the number of job postings in substitutable clusters went down relative to the unaffected clusters after the launch of ChatGPT. At the same tine, the job postings in complemented clusters did not decrease.

We use BERTopic + HBDSCAN clustering to group job postings on a major online labour platform into clusters, and leverage ChatGPT to classify the clusters into three groups: Unaffected by LLMs, Complemented by LLMs, and Substitutable by LLMs. [2/]
