Time to announce FOUR 🆓 upgrades to freeCodeCamp's curriculum today.
Years in the making. Live now.
🏗️ A 21-project JavaScript cert
🐍 A fully interactive 15-project Python cert
🔨 The Odin Project on fCC
🏕️ And a new English for Developers curriculum
Let's unbox these 🎄🎁
I saw
#Singularity
trending with nearly 2 million tweets and thought "Oh my God. It's happening. The bots are all tweeting in unison on Twitter to signal the global regime change."
Then I clicked and it's just some K-Pop singer who released a new song called "Singularity."
Hey BTS Army - when I tweeted this earlier I did not know who V was and had not watched his new video. Honestly I was just relieved the singularity wasn't happening. But I watched his new video and it is amazing. He is not just "some K-pop singer" - he is the real deal.
Congratulations to Nigeria on their 2-0 win!
You are by far the most stylish and exciting team in this year's World Cup.
Sending a lot of love your way from the USA!
Good luck with Tuesday's game against Argentina. You can do this!
Apparently Parler just got pulled from the Google App store.
Over at TheDonald they're teaching each other how to install the PWA version.
I thought this exchange was funny.
Just a friendly reminder that 55% of Americans only have one option for a broadband internet provider.
Free market competition doesn't work when there is no competition.
That's why we need the 3 basic rules of
#NetNeutrality
: no blocking, no throttling, no paid prioritization.
9 years ago, I sat down at this desk in my closet and built the first version of
@freeCodeCamp
.
Today I'm just one of thousands of developers and teachers contributing to the freeCodeCamp community.
It's an honor and a privilege to be among so many thoughtful people. 🏕️
🛠️ Build your skills.
👂 Build your reputation.
🌐 Build your network.
Your career success depends on all three of these.
Don't make the mistake of focusing on only one or two. Think about ways you can build all three at the same time.
Happy 8th birthday to the global freeCodeCamp community. 🎂🎇

He does not represent the developer community.
I have removed all 33 of his articles from freeCodeCamp's publication and revoked his author permissions.
I'm proud to announce that freeCodeCamp is now one of the 1,000 most-used websites on Earth.

A private equity company just bought the rights to the entire .ORG domain registry.
Oh, and

removed price caps, too.
If your nonprofit owns a .org domain, go extend your registration out to the maximum 10 years before prices skyrocket.
I'm excited to share freeCodeCamp's big goal for the next decade:
📜 To provide computer science bachelor's degrees...

I am blown away by UPI, the Universal Payments Interface system that Indian engineers have built for processing transactions.
It's one of the best examples of successful public-private partnership in modern times. And a testament to the power of long-term planning and execution.
Remember that big thing I said freeCodeCamp was going to announce on December 23rd? We're going to announce it today. In about 2 hours.
I am extremely proud of this and I can't wait to share it with you all.
In the coming weeks, you'll see lots of ads for online courses that promise to prep you for a developer job in weeks.
Some of these cost $20. Some cost $2,000.
When you see these remember: it takes months of practice to ramp up to job-ready.
Practice that you can get for free.
Hey everyone we did it! 🎊 The freeCodeCamp Data Science Pledge Drive exceeded our goal. Total raised: $306,667
Thank you to all 2,519 of you donors. And to
@darrellsilver
for his matching donation of $150K.
Here's how we've started putting this to use:
Yesterday I crunched the numbers for 2021. Over the past 365 days, people have spent 2.1 billion minutes learning from freeCodeCamp.
On a budget of only $754,030, our nonprofit has delivered 4,000 years of learning to people around the world. That's 50 hours per dollar spent. 🧵
Danny went from frying chicken at a gas station to working at Google in the span of just a few years. He learned to code, then turned around and helped other people in his community learn to code. Legend. 👏
For the first time in
@freeCodeCamp
's 5-year history, we have more Indian developers 🇮🇳 using our site than Americans 🇺🇸.
And Nigeria 🇳🇬 isn't far behind.
I'm proud of how international the developer community is becoming.
Those eagles and those tigers - they are rising.
You can't buy skills. You have to cultivate them yourself.
When you buy a book, a course, a piece of gear, it can feel like you're buying progress.
But skills only come with practice.
If you want to get a new job after the
#coronavirus
blows over, start preparing now.
🛠️ Build your skills.
🔊 Build your reputation.
🌐 Build your network.
Your career success depends on all 3 of these.
Stay home. But don't despair.
Use online tools to build these today.

And it springs me back into action.
The 17-year-old fCC alum built a popular Coronavirus dashboard. He turned down an $8M offer so he could keep it ad-free.
People often ask me: why am I so quick to recommend courses from websites that compete with
@freeCodeCamp

Because I don't view them as "competitors."
All of us course creators are working together toward a common goal:
🚀 better
🌈 broader
🌎🌍🌏 more accessible
education.
I just put together this collection of stories from 300 developers who got their first tech job in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. And we're just getting started. Help me dispel the myth that only young people can learn to code.

These are her own words, from her Instagram:
"When I was 19, I dropped out of college because I was $20,000 in student loan debt and could no longer afford the price of classes."
If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.
When I heard this proverb as a kid it floored me. I would quote it to my friends whenever I showed them how to do something.
So reading this email a minute ago - it melted my heart.
Also, if anyone's wondering, it only took me a few seconds to decide what to do here. This was not some big soul searching exercise.
The reason I didn't act quicker was I was off twitter, playing with my kids, and I just now saw your messages. Again, thanks for your patience.
I wouldn't fault anyone for relaxing this weekend. 🏖️
But if you have time for some career planning, I've got good news for you.
Developer certs are a powerful tool to expand your résumé / LinkedIn.
