I got to take an amazing vacation and mostly fund it for some friends and family and this is what I want from making a good salary. The best thing. 🌴

Doctors are supposed to know and speak up once I tell them. Thousands of doctors have heard me. How many that do know the anatomy now will confront their colleagues? Also, why does this surgeon act like surgeons were incapable of looking it up and teaching themselves?

You would not believe the famous orthopedic surgeon who invited me to his hotel room in from of another orthopedic surgeon who looked surprised but said nothing. I was in residency. “Not all men” men need to intervene to actually not be that man. Esp w/power differential in play.
I have similar stories #MeToo Propositioned multiple times, despite saying I have a boyfriend/ husband. Asked to meet at a hotel to ‘help me with my CV’. All powerful people who can’t be touched, but complaining would destroy our reputation #ILookLikeASurgeon

There are a few annoyances, but having a multigenerational household is amazing in so many ways. My kids definitely benefit from having and grandparent live here. Knowing they will have these precious memories makes it all worth while.

I picked up a disaster on call and the family spent 20 minutes grilling me on my background. Asked “why should I choose you?” I finally told them I’ve been fixing “experienced” surgeons complications my entire practice. I can’t guarantee it’s bc I’m a younger woman, but … 🤷♀️
But some version of this happens to non-male and/or non-white physicians often. And sometimes we are tired, and sometimes we want to vent.

In case there’s still doubt. Misogyny comes from women as well as men. As my good friend said just today- men get the benefit of the doubt but we have to prove ourselves over and over.

Newly matched folks- do yourself a favor and start keeping a list of addresses on google drive. Over time, add vaccine records, ID numbers and passwords, copies of licenses, etc. This pain only gets worse over time. Start now and refer to easily later.
For my onboarding paperwork, I need to know my addresses for the past 10 years. 10 years!!! I lived in 5 different apartments in Boston during that time. I have no clue what my addresses were!!!! I have to really think 😂
