Even my partner, who has no awareness of the games, enjoyed the movie. I feel like there's a cultural gaslighting that this is somehow the bomb of the year. It's sort of a claptrap of film, but the pieces fit together if you're a fan of the #borderlands games or sci-fi flicks.

There are some noticable reshoots and green screen landscapes, but you can still see the money on the screen, and there's several bonkers set pieces. They managed to get the colors to pop in way reminiscent of the cel shading in the game.

Aesthetically, it felt true to the original game. The characters & plot were more of a pastiche, and sometimes introduced clunkily. But I liked Blachett and Greenblatt, and was pleasantly surprised by Jack Black's Claptrap. Even Kevin Hart, though miscast, was toned down.

I'm a lapsed Borderlands gamer, having sunk hundreds of hours into Borderlands 1 & 2. Sometimes I get the urge to revisit those games from 10+ years ago. This movie scratches that itch. It's not perfect, but it's a wild romp through the wasteland.

Just saw #Borderlands movie and it was a fun time! I feel like there's a massive pile-on that's focusing on the angle "it's doing bad at the box office!" and treating it like a huge disaster. It's this year's John Carter (another movie I really enjoyed).

It was a good weekend to see cowboy music in Omaha, with Orville Peck and Charley Crockett. Got comfy air-conditioned balcony seats at the Astro and Steelhouse, which worked out far better (and cheaper) than dealing with the hellscape of Hinterland.

You know @hinterlandiowa isn't going to do anything about their problems until someone dies. They wouldn't let me cross the street until I collapsed, almost passed out, and medics escorted me across. When there's no cars, and no line down the shuttle. They literally don't care.

Update: a woman near me in line nearly fainted from heat exhaustion. Once we made it in, there was no space to put a blanket down and sit. There are tons of people behind us. I can’t imagine where they will sit. @hinterlandiowa oversold the venue by a factor of 2x. I don’t do
