For market-rate apartments this is permitted as long as the landlord gives enough notice (between 30-90 days depending on how long you’ve lived there). Check our tips for navigating steep rent increases linked in our bio.

3. The price is too good to be true. Scammers will advertise below market rates to attract interest. Do your research on what the going rent is in the neighborhood. If the price is much lower, your guard should be up.
