On OA 1085, we discussed how President Biden can save lives ahead of the Trump presidency and we wanted to mobilize you, our community, to demand this action via our petition below. It's time we let our voices be heard off the air. Every signature counts:

Simple immigration policy: - No migration without consent. - Consent should only be granted to migrants who benefit America. - Those who enter without consent must be removed. Turns out most Americans actually agree with us on this.

@openargs I manage a forum of 5,000 American archaeologists. There is extreme angst about what this admin means for our jobs. Deregulation will likely lead to more work on federal lands, but ending NAGPRA, the NHPA, and the Antiquities Act will change how ethical or long-term our work is.

This is what I've been talking about. We need to stop fighting each other about things that don't actually affect the election. This is the problem. This right here. We're busy bothering with reality and they are not in reality and don't even hear about reality.

11/ All of these scenarios are taken directly either from things Trump has already done or which he is promising to do and could very easily carry out within the next four years. There are far worse, if less likely, possibilities.

10/ Palantir. McKinsey, and Harvard Law have all been useful tools in the service of the worst things the government has done in our lifetimes. If you are on this kind of track, you were already more likely to be facing these choices anyway

Newly uncovered documents show the consulting giant helped ICE find “detention savings opportunities” — including measures the agency’s staff sometimes viewed as too harsh on immigrants.

9/ For these examples I have purposely chosen professional jobs which require years of education, training, experience, and personal sacrifice. Jobs like mine, and very possibly yours. I don't have answers, but I have thoughts.

8/ In "They Thought They Were Free," Meyer interviews an academic who marvels at how readily he and everyone else signed loyalty oaths to the Nazi Party. It was just the thing to do. He wonders aloud what a mass refusal might have brought.

7/ We can't answer these questions for you. But they and so many more are coming. Historically speaking, the average fascist doesn't wear jackboots and an armband. They are courteous professionals who are just doing their jobs--nearly all of which aren't explicitly hurting anyone

1/ On today's show we challenged listeners to consider the kinds of professional choices they may be facing through an extended period of Republican rule. The following scenarios are realistic and grounded in real actionable Trump proposals. Please consider and share widely
