Homophobes will call queer people βun-Africanβ, while we have been part & parcel and celebrated, as part of African culture long before religious colonialism erased us. Then also judge politicians with African cultural attire that doesnβt conform to heteronormativity. Hectic

In Namibia, it disproportionately impacts men. And judging from the vile homophobia that comes from our political leaders, patriarchal approach to vulnerability coming from traditional leaders and judgmental critics from religious leaders. The # 1 rate is a society that hates.

Also, how embarrassing for a ruling political party to resort to attacks like this. Arenβt they suppose to use their platforms to push out the policy agenda achievements or challenge the opposition parties that are IN POWER? Gurl you really are threatened by youth change makers

Youβre doing something right, when ur countryβs ruling party uses such a cute pic- with a pose worthy to be a presidential portrait of yourself- to launch baseless attacks against the content of ur character & mission to defend democracy. Ur a force to be reckoned with @namataik_

A 24 min standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival for a film that captures the cries of Gaza. It was really heartbreaking watching this film amidst an ONGOING genocide. The violence and atrocities in apartheid Israel is truly unbecoming of humanity. How many more.

Imagine that. A room full of government civil servants and ministerial stakeholders, those entrusted to ensure all Namibians have access to justice, healthcare and all other basic services, laughing as if subjugating someone to a life threatening virus is a joke. @NamPresidency

No High Court decriminalized it in 2024; declaring the discrimination & stigma that has risen from the apartheid-era law unconstitutional. While the government is appealing the ruling to Supreme Court, doesnβt allow ministry to deny basic access to healthcare βin the meantimeβ

Something really empowering to have a government respect the rule of law & the process of democracy. While πΏπ¦ awaits constitutionality of criminalization of sex work, π³π¦ continues to use sodomy law as basis of discrimination- even while the victory of High Court heads for appeal
In what is being hailed as a victory for human rights in South Africa, the government has suspended prosecutions of sex workers pending the outcome of a landmark court case challenging the criminalisation of sex work.Β https://t.co/0L1oBkVIhW

When the High Court decriminalizes sodomy in June 2024, and @MhssNamibia continues to deny prisoners access to condoms and basic healthcare, all based on their homophobic approach to governance. You really got to be worried that your rights and wellbeing are at the helm of hate.

In a country w/ almost 8% of the prison population is HIV+, homophobia not only places the country at risk of this epidemic, but blatantly violates the rights of dignified healthcare. I canβt believe these are people in charge of basic access to health & wellbeing. What a shame!

Absolutely despicable. In this video, during a @MhssNamibia engagement, you can hear gov officials laughing, at male inmates are being denied access to condoms to prevent sexual activities. There is no joke in State-Sanctioned Homophobic policies denying the right to healthcare.

My mom, has dedicated 25 yr working for the national airline. Many workers who have proudly served Air Namibia are still waiting for their severance package & gov still denies them the wages they deserve. It is so evil to have this discussion while justice is undone.
