I'm taking a 6 week break after the Twitter buyout until (hopefully) the chaos quiets. If it doesn't, I'll leave for good. I have friends on this platform I've never met, but who I love to hear from. Will miss you. It's not hard to find me.

I spent Drive My Car thinking about the car, because I used to have the same model (900 S, not the Turbo). The real Saab was super loud and poorly insulated - though a beautiful machine. I don't know how they recorded the dialogue in all those scenes.

Key role to watch at Twitter is what happens to Vijaya Gadde, General Counsel. She has been both a passionate defender of free expression and also integral to weeding out vitriol on the platform. If Musk kicks her out, get ready for a rocky ride.

So the open source alternative to Twitter is Mastodon. But I don't know anyone who actually uses it. (Part of the network effects problem - very hard to start a new club at scale.) Anyone tried it?

Went to a party this weekend and listened to a man loudly declare that he broke up with his girlfriend because of BLM. Claimed the LA looting tore them apart. Not because of anything he did in the relationship, no. It was "BLM" that did it.

I'm trying to understand Musk taking over Twitter. It feels punitive, in the same league as his former Paypal colleague destroying Gawker. The SEC challenged him on his use of Twitter so he wants to buy it. You don't like how I drive? I'm going to buy the road.
