Kids were so excited today when I told them their homework was to “play with their phones” — then we made these phones out of cups and strings. The eye rolls and groans sent palpable waves through the room. @oberlinmiddle

Today’s class was “poppin’” as the Rockets students experimented with the behaviors of solids (Alka Seltzer), liquids (water), and gases (carbon dioxide). It was a really fun day of learning! @oberlinmiddle

First day for this little @JYJoyner 1st grader and her mama, a proud 6th grade science teacher at @oberlinmiddle!! Excited to make this the best year yet!

Today in Rockets science classes, we had a lot going on! Watering our flowers, wrapping up a germination experiment, and creating models to learn about vascular plant structures. Being a science teacher is a pretty sweet gig. @oberlinmiddle

Today’s science class in full BLOOM with our awesome flower dissection. Students analyzed the structures of perfect flowers and were able to build understanding of how pollination happens. We also sneezed a lot. #pollenprobz

Rocket scientists are getting the DIRT on…well, dirt. Or soil, I should say. It was a delightfully dirty day for it observing soil properties and comparing the variety of soils in our own backyards!

Rocket science students modeled the rock cycle today using crayons. Using models to represent concepts and build concrete understanding is a great way to make learning come to life! @oberlinmiddle

A few more album covers - I am truly delighted by the creativity. It was fun to see students using their knowledge of rock types and formation processes, combined with their excitement to "play" with AI, to create these album covers!

Students created their own "Rock" Albums in class last week. They came up with the name, used an AI image generator to create album cover art, wrote their "Making of the Band" story, and then wrote titles for 7-10 songs. Love the creativity! @oberlinmiddle

We had “s’more” fun in science class today, using graham crackers, chocolate, and whipped cream to model tectonic plate interactions. Students had so much fun using tasty ingredients to represent earth’s lithosphere and asthenosphere! @oberlinmiddle

Rocket scientists created their own “Journey to the Center of the Earth” comic strips this week, and today got the chance to share their products with classmates. So many delightfully strange characters traveling through Earth’s layers - such a fun day!

Today in the Rocket science lab, we investigated density in efforts to understand how Earth’s layers are organized. It was a fun way to visualize something that’s otherwise impossible to see!

6th grade scientists have been studying wave energy, the EM spectrum, and color. We celebrated yesterday with our own holiday, "ROYGBIV Day!" Check out this full spectrum of colors worn by the Rockets students! @oberlinmiddle

Today's Oobleck lab was an EXPERIENCE. I've almost run out of words, which is saying a lot for me. Suffice it to say, however, we talked a lot about how liquids and solids SHOULD behave... Messy, messy, messy. Cornstarch in weird places. But oh the joy. @oberlinmiddle
