Join me for the Thursday morning keynote at SF Ruby Conference on November 20th. I'll be sharing my thoughts on the Ruby AI ecosystem, including a rundown of what's made the most difference in how I deliver software this year. https://t.co/Vj9JXwnNNA

Trying this out. Got to the subscription screen and did sign up for $2.99/month, however had a kind of reaction I've never had before which is: "hmm, I might vibe this for myself so that I can add alerts on all my other devices around the house"
@jespr @obie I use https://t.co/tOCmGRtEYe and helped me a lot. But If you are not at your computer it wont help.

How can Bryan not be an inspiration to anyone trying to live their best?? I'm serious. A gem of a human being in such a cynical world.
My bedtime has arrived. Here's what's going to happen. After I finish writing this post, screens are off. Wash face. Clean mouth. Hair serums. While listening to An Immense World. Will sit on my couch and process the day. Need to listen to all the Bryan's and what's on

WHAT I REALLY NEED AND WILL PAY GOOD MONEY FOR!!! 3 minutes after I have not connected to a Google Meet on my calendar, every single connected device on my person or in my house begins to make very loud annoying noises. Why does this not exist? Am I the only one?

Over the years, I’ve given the same advice to hundreds of startup founders and hiring managers: 👉 Hire half the people you think you need. 👉 Keep the same budget. 👉 Pay those people double. It sounds radical, but it’s how you build elite teams. The problem is, almost no

So yeah — hire half the people you think you need. Keep the same budget. Pay double. And let AI handle the rest.

The uncomfortable truth: That $250K “senior” engineer everyone’s trying to hire is actually worth $500K now. And that’s still cheap compared to what a 3-person team costs!

This isn’t theory. It’s what smart orgs will look like in the AI era — small, senior, hyper-leveraged. Meanwhile, everyone else will still be hiring “just enough” mid-levels to stay busy, not productive.

So now the equation looks like this: Hire half as many people. Pay them double. Equip them with AI agents. Now you’ve got a 10× team with fewer coordination headaches!

Here’s where AI coding agents flip the script. They easily make great engineers 2×–5× more productive. That means one elite $500K engineer can now handle the workload of a small team.

And there’s a subtler reason most people miss: Fewer people means fewer workstreams. For some orgs, that’s scary. They think more people automatically means more progress. (It doesn’t. Ever heard of The Mythical Man Month?)

The legit reason: it’s hard to hire that caliber of person. The best senior engineers are always employed, well-treated, and not looking. Dislodging them takes either a world-class mission or a life-changing offer.

The dumb reason: ego. Many startup founders and hiring managers just don’t want to pay someone more than themselves. And/or they’d rather build a big team than a great one. Their actions prove it!

But almost nobody does it. Why? Because they can’t stomach paying an engineer $500K when they “budgeted” for $250K. Even if that engineer will outperform two or three $250K engineers combined.
