It would be more unrepresentative of the population it’s claiming to survey. That study is actually very representative of Kano. I would in fact say that from these numbers, around a third of adult men in Kano are hypertensive if these are the rates of clinic attendees.

Even if we look at that 'range,' the data in the screenshot mixes community-based studies with primary care clinic studies. You can't decipher a true national range when half the data comes from hospital patients who already have higher rates of comorbidities

I am telling you why most studies you find on ED will be geography specific. This does not mean that a range of prevalence cannot be deciphered from multiple surveys from different parts of the country. And this range isn’t a bad generalisation if you see an outlier.

Claiming a stratified national survey is 'more unrepresentative' than a hospital sample where 58% of the men have hypertension is wild, very laughable.

You're also contradicting yourself. If it's more statistically useful to specify based on geography because of 'immediate environment', then you inherently cannot use a Northern hospital sample to generalise the rest of the country. That's exactly why extrapolating is flawed.

Factually incorrect. The Kano study itself notes their 52.3% rate is much higher than Benin (19.8%) and Calabar (41.5%). A swing from 20% to 60% across regions isn't "similar across the board" it’s the exact heterogeneity problem I mentioned.

@obalawo It’s not a flawed generalisation if the rate is similar across board. That is called an informed and justified extrapolation. What you can do is look up all the non-general surveys and compare the prevalence rates. The rate is similar across geography and sampling methods.

> 56%-hmm quite interesting stats > Go to the paper they reference > It's a cross-sectional study done in one clinic You're measuring men who are already seeking medical help. Do Nigerian journalists know how to read papers or know the limits of generalising a study like this?

Nigerian men are experiencing erectile dysfunction at alarmingly high rates. New data show that the prevalence rates are between 40% and 56%, significantly higher than the global average of 10-20%.

Let break down this “not all men” stuff for you people Out of 10 men in a room, one cracks a sexual joke. Two of them actually find it funny. Three of them don’t find it funny but chuckle just to fit in. Four of them don’t find it funny but don’t say anything. None of them

To explain why Nigeria is the way it is, one could use thousands of words speaking about history, and hundreds of stats about economics. But I’ve found that a much better way is to check the comments of posts like this, and the answer will be crystal to you.

Nigerians must continue to pray that someone like myself never makes it to Aso Rock as President. I am telling you now, the very first thing I will do is place heavy restrictions on religion. Pastors will be required to obtain a permit from the State House before they can
