Huge news!!.
This is huge news for adult intercountry adoptees in the United States who lack proof of US citizenship. While limited to Certificates of Citizenship, it eliminates a filing fee that will soon be $1,335.

This week we heard from a NYC born adoptee who applied for their OBC via VitalChek. They received the OBC within ONE WEEK! Another person indicated the turnaround time for the state - via VitalChek - was ten days. Merry Everything and Happy Always!

Michigan bills voted strongly out of committee. On to the floor for a vote--before the House adjourns by November 10. Huzzah to @RepKristianG and Rep. Pat Outman for their leadership and for Committee Chair @RepStephYoung for giving us a hearing!

Since NY’s OBC bill passed, in 2019, FIVE more states were added to the unrestricted list: Connecticut, Louisiana, Massachusetts, South Dakota and Vermont. Minnesota will join them in 2024. NYARC has provided written support of all 6 and has done so for Michigan as well.

Today, we grieve the loss of Florence Fisher. We stood on her shoulders every time we lobbied for equality for adopted people. “We Pass this way but once. We make a mockery of life if we do not pursue our dreams, if we hedge against reality and know but half of what we are.”
