Chrissy, a dedicated subsistence farmer from Malawi, faced the challenge of unreliable maize harvests. With support from Welthungerhilfe Malawi and Kusamala Institute, she learned modern agricultural techniques and received high-quality OPV maize seeds. e

After this training, these farmers will be able to create new plants as per their desire through these propagation methods, significantly reducing their dependence on the market for quality plants. This will also ensure food diversity in their fields. #EmpoweredFarmers

This training was conducted by the agricultural expert of Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram in Karahal block of Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, with groups of 25 farmers in four different villages: Sonipura, Gadha, Hanumankheda, and Chakmajidpur.

In the month of July 2024, 100 farmers from the Nutrition Smart CommUNITY received one-day training on various methods of regenerating plants from healthy plants through grafting, layering (air and soil), and budding.

Children and mothers from the community enjoy participating in these camps, which also raise awareness about the 1000-day initiative for women's health and nutrition. #NutritionCamp #Baalbhoj #CommunityHealth #EndMalnutrition #NSCProject

These camps aim to address the nutritional needs of undernourished children by providing additional nutritious meals. Mothers will also receive support to learn basic, baby-friendly recipes and understand the importance of growth monitoring & ten food groups, along with hygiene.

The Nutrition Smart Communities are organizing a 15-day nutrition camp in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Over the past three days, experts, policymakers, and development partners united to address critical challenges and shape a regional roadmap for healthier, sustainable, and inclusive food systems in South Asia.

We are delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the 'Expert Consultation Meeting' by SAC (SAARC Agriculture Centre) in collaboration with Welthungerhilfe.

Attendees included WHH staff, partner organizations, development professionals, and Food Systems and Agriculture Experts from around the globe. We appreciate everyone's participation in this enriching exchange of knowledge and experiences in transforming food systems worldwide!

Expert Speaker Anshuman Das, a Food Systems and Agriculture Expert, led the discussions. The session featured presentations from eight countries including Bangladesh, Burundi, India, Malawi, Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, Nepal, and Ethiopia.

Participants explored the diverse food groups available from these gardens, discovered sustainable technologies that sustained them throughout the year, and delved into the major challenges faced and innovative solutions.
