Workers First will now pursue backpack for over 1,000 members and begin collective bargaining with Uber. This is justice after a long fight. Uber drivers deserve the same rights as anyone else.

We won in the public eye, the Employment Court, the Court of Appeal and now the Supreme Court. But the political fight isn’t over. Brooke van Velden's bill still threatens these protections. Who will this Government stand with: working people or corporate giants?

We won in the Supreme Court! We always knew what was right because we lived the wrong. Today the Supreme Court has confirmed it: Uber drivers are workers, not contractors. Minimum wage. Sick and annual leave. Union rights. Collective bargaining. All are finally recognised.

I wish LGNZ would lead that discussion, rather than this misguided proposal that, if enacted, would put voter turnout in NZ local government into terminal decline.

We need to address, for example, whether the corporate governance model established under the Local Government Act needs reform to create more responsive, more democratic Councils.

additional means of voting is only part of the solution. The elephant in the room is that residents have lost confidence in the power of their vote to affect local decisionmaking. In order to address that, we need a much harder discussion than this sideshow about modes of voting

Honestly, it is remarkable that the group representing councils up and down the country would mount a case against all available evidence and contrary to common sense. Low and declining rates of voter participation in NZ local body elections have much deeper roots and

We should absolutely support innovations that provide additional means of voting, including online and in person options. But there is no way we should take the postal option away. Evidence shows that postal options make voting easier and enhance participation.

The ACT Party has its facts wrong. Wgtn Airport paid WCC a dividend worth $250 per household last year, helping keep rates down. The Mayor’s privatisation plan puts the money into an investment fund. It does not reduce rates or pay down debt.

Wellington Airport is an asset of strategic significance for our whole region. Once the shares are sold from public ownership, there is no going back. It would be remiss of us not to consider our options as a region.
