It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our Wellington Street store as of today. In 2017 we opened Ontario’s first zero waste grocery in this amazing community that is Hintonburg, and you welcomed us with open arms.

Our mission to enable waste-free living and promote responsible consumption will continue from our larger Main Street store. And we have exciting plans for it! We will soon resume events and workshops and will continue to expand our assortment of NUnique package-free products.

Soon after came the pandemic with its many challenges. After 2.5 years of weathering the storm the best we could, we made the difficult but necessary decision to scale back and focus on running one store and our delivery service.

Our little store soon became a thriving destination for a growing community of waste-conscious people. It was doing so well that we decided to open a second location. In October of 2019 we opened NU Main - our bigger and improved location in Old Ottawa East.

If you see Arif biking through downtown with his ebike and trailer, chances are he’s delivering a NU grocery order!. We’re excited to switch our short distance deliveries to ebike. They were already #ZeroWaste, now they’re also #ZeroEmissions! 🙌💚🌎

Here’s the plan 👇. ✅ 2022: ban on the manufacture and import of these single use plastics.✅ 2023: ban on the sale.✅ 2025: ban on the export . Together these actions will eliminate more than 1.3 MILLION tonnes of plastic waste.
