Notice how the first thing Van Dijk speaks about is body positioning and then channelling the attacker away from goal by the same. Not tackling, not dueling. The key is always to play the attacker's mind.

@nueverole The thing about scaring the attacker off, it's good but against players like Vinicius who run at you without fear & just risk it till they succeed, once they succeed... you're done in a way.

@covercianograd There's a quote that fits perfectly to this. "The idea is not to stop the opponent everytime. The idea is to make him believe that you might stop him everytime".

@nueverole Like The great Maldini once said “If I have to make a tackle then I have already made a mistake."

@nueverole Can't wait for a potential Vini vs VVD 1v1 during the match this weekend, interesting to see who'll win...

@M4RZ0V3LLI I have been analysing it for a while. Its akin to an advanced software development concept called loose coupling. He doesnt get tight to anyone, which forces the attacker to make a decision. He then pounces (at run time). This allows him to adapt to MOST situations. Its brilliant

@nueverole I like that his last remark is that by delaying the attack he gets reinforcements too.
