For me, watching Hong’s repeated tales most resembles the vagaries of retrospection. Thinking back on a drunken night, sometimes you remember the good; other times, more often, the bad. You wonder what you should have said or done differently.

“Long Island Compromise” illuminates a newish kind of literary territory: the novel that sounds like TV, that was clearly written in order to become TV, that constantly reminds us how great TV is.
