Mindfulness seems to be a bit better than value refleciton for improving decentering, but both work better than just checking in daily on mood and stress levels. Really amazing work by @yiyi_wang75 , please feel free to check it out!

This study helps validate mindfulness to meaning theory, establishes a dose response boundary on when decentering leads to new meanings (might take closer to a month than a week), and shows positive engagement with LLM chatbots to coach participants on mindfulness and values.

The mindfulness-to-meaning theory suggests that decentering leads to new meanings, a process known as 'reappraisal', but growth in reappraisal was only evident after the 4 week (but not 1 week) intervention.

We found that compared to a 'check-in only' control condition, both mindfulness exercises and more western-style reflection on core values reduced sstress over time. This effect was primarily driven by improved decentering, the ability to become reflect on thoughts and feelings.

Excited to see our first paper on chatbot-led mindfulness training in print at Mindfulness, with recent PhD grad @yiyi_wang75 We examined 1 and 4 week training protocols, comparing mindfulness training against 2 controls.

Sense foraging might be the fastest way to get out of your head and into the present. 1. Pause and sense. If you're feeling stuck in your head, pause and focus on what you see, smell, hear, or feel. 2. Shift your brain state. This quiets the default mode network (where

@zindelsegal If mental habits preserve or build gray matter, more isn't better if these habits include depressive rumination or catastrophization over internal sensory experiences. By contrast, taking a break from these habits (perhaps by engaging in #SenseForaging) may be helpful.

@zindelsegal We found that greater cortical thickness—not atrophy—in sensory and language-related regions is linked to relapse risk and residual symptoms.

Thrilled to share our research on the benefits of sensation with @zindelsegal today!

Our research suggests that it’s not sadness per se that leads to poor mental health, but shutting down input from the body. ‘Sense foraging’ offers a way out of the trap

With no new sensations to shake things up, the certainty of your sadness persists, like a piece of software you haven’t updated. Find out how sense foraging can be especially helpful. https://t.co/CJ0jMkQevY
