As I emphasized in my briefing, we are now talking only with four countries, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia & NZ on a business track. No such talks are conducted with the U.S. and Europe. Please do not misunderstand.

Noriyuki Shikata of Japan’s foreign ministry says JP is looking into " the possibility of coming up with a business track” for travelers from the U.S. & Europe as the Covid19 infection situation improves in those regions. No timeline.

@norishikata @motokorich What about the non-Japanese degree-seeking University students who are outside of Japan right now and so have to take online courses? And many of their student visas will expire and if @out of Japan they are told they will have to reapply.

@norishikata Japanese businessmen and students are allowed to enter large parts of the EU without having to be quarantined. At the same time, Europeans living in Japan are not allowed to re-enter Japan, although they would go into quarantine voluntarily. Reciprocity probably no longer exists.

@norishikata Lack of diversity in decisionmaking leads to myopia. Hope you have some females and mothers at least, in your deliberations. It is quite clear what you think about foreigners. #tokyo2020

@norishikata @motokorich How about foreign residents? Aren’t they valuable to the Japanese government?
