the windows 11 version of microsoft paint is really buggy and broken and it makes me sad ): It doesn't scale the canvas correctly and your cursors position is not sampled correctly leading to imprecise, inaccurate broken and jagged lines. rip paint.

I have now added yellow paint technology to my #gameengine. Now nobody will ever get lost #gamedev #indiedev

just finished implementing a prefab system in my #gameengine. I know there is so much more work to do but with this in it feels like I am getting closer to something usable. I think next I need some basic AI, and some more work on the weapon system. #indiedev #gamedev

it felt like it took forever but the dialogue system is now 100% in, you can edit it in the editor, build the game and have an npc repeat the dialogue back to you.

improvements to my dialogue editor since yesterday. I think it's a lot easier to read, but still far from perfect, especially with the colours. They are of course temporary. Theming imgui is very finicky so I'm waiting until the ui is solid (#gamedev #indiedev #gameengine)

working on the dialogue system ui today, still trying to learn how to use #imgui but getting there. Currently trying to figure out how to fill in the background of these. #gamedev #indiedev #gameengine

And I set up a new binary tag system, like json or minecraft's nbt system, so it's now super easy to serialize any object down to a binary blob. When compressed down the exported game file is about 5 KB (ignoring the fact that bundling the runtime is ~15MB 🤫)

Other things I worked on that you can spot in the video: raycasting for entities, a health component, and a weapon system (all the data is there, no gameplay yet) But most of the last 2 weeks was spent making this possible and expandable

Mostly made major back-end changes so not super interesting, but here's a working main/pause menu. Not visible in the video but I refactored huge chunks of the engine to make it easy to add new types of assets & entity components. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev #raylib

been working on data serialization for so long now that my eyes feel like they are glazing over. I'm going to see (ListTag)(ListTag)(ListTag)(ListTag)(ListTag)(ListTag) everywhere in my dreams

its so hard to stay motivated making something when you realise just how much work you have left to do

Starting to work on making my own ui library for the runtime, but I'm hoping by the time I'm done with it it'll be advanced enough that I can use it instead of imgui for the editor as well. I liked godot's UI system so much that I'm using nested UI nodes, and it works really well

A very rough first pass of a character controller component in my #raylib based #gameengine. The game compiles down to a single file which can be read by the runtime, kind of like a doom wad. The physics tick rate is 60hz but there's no interpolation yet. #indiedev #gamedev.

first #screenshotsaturday in quite a while, this time with a video of the progress I made this week on my own #gameengine. Creating entities with components! So far I have a renderer and a physics component. Soon I will be able to create an FPS demo. #indiedev #gamedev

I'm making my own custom #gameengine. My goal is to keep the scope very small, and make it as accessible as possible. Think #bitsy but 3D. I want to add simple AABB physics for first person and NPCs / objects. Hopefully it'll work out well #indiedev
