Lawyers for the owners of The Bell Hotel in Epping say they are “caught in the middle of a much wider debate on the treatment of asylum seekers” and asks “all associated with The Bell Hotel are left alone to continue to support the government's asylum plans as best they can”.

3. The short timeframe between rehousing asylum seekers temporarily by 12 September and the court hearing on a permanent ban starting in mid-October “seems to have had oddly little resonance” by the previous judgement.

2. “The undesirability of incentivising protests” enhancing the case for planning injunctions, risking “lawlessness” and outweighing any fear of crime by Epping residents.

The judgment today appeared to hinge on three important factors not considered enough in the previous ruling:. 1. The cumulative effect of more councils getting temporary injunctions creating a “punitive impact” on efforts to try & house asylum seekers.

Somani Hotels has WON its appeal to overturn the temporary ban on asylum seekers being housed at The Bell Hotel in Epping. Migrants there can stay before the decision on a permanent ban is heard in court in October.

The Home Office has WON its right to appeal against the closure of The Bell Hotel in Epping at any future hearing, with judges finding 'the Home Secretary has a clear statutory duty towards asylum seekers in this country' & therefore should be allowed to participate in this case.

Lord Justice (David) Bean opens the reading of the summary judgment by saying this case "is not concerned with the merits of government policy in relation to the provision of accommodation for asylum seekers in hotels or otherwise".
