Our postcards are from ‘Illustrations of the American Ornithology’, published here in Edinburgh in 1835, featuring the work of Scottish ornithologist Alexander Wilson. As well as a founder of American ornithology, Wilson was also a poet.

Finally, our main exhibition 'Northern Lights: The Scottish Enlightenment'. Featuring items from our rare books and manuscripts collections, the exhibition illuminates Scotland's contribution to the flourishing intellectual, artistic and scientific progress of the Enlightenment.
