I have never been a fan of catchy vision statements. It has often diluted the bigger picture and led to different interpretations. We tried out @MichaelHyatt technique of building a vision script. Here are some points which we used to guide us.

There is a huge market out there for unique stays when you just don’t want to stay in the same familiar hotel chain chain. Very much the same point in @david_perell’s essay on algorithms .

Absolutely brilliant! When traveling, we end up staying in apartments or hotels without any personality. An apartment in Rome looks almost similar to our apartment in Bruges. Having an apartment that’s unique and with a personality of the destination can make the trip amazing!.

I've been following @david_perell for a while now and I highly recommend his long-form essays. This one is absolutely brilliant on the work-play-relax cycle.

“There is no one right way to agile”. Rather there are almost infinite right ways, as many as the number of teams in the world. The challenge lies in identifying the right way for your team and being prepared to iterate.

Later when we had a mature product and focused on adding more features, we added a concept of weekly goals to the above. The goal was the define a short term milestone for the team and not keep them blocked.

When we formed a new team last year, we focused on two things . - A prioritized backlog .- Engineers are free to pick up tasks whenever they want. This worked well as we were building a new pipeline and there were lots of unknowns.

I’ve seen many good engineers with an ardent dislike for Scrum. Most likely, they were doing it wrong. If you are one of them, this blog from @StackOverflow will bring back some memories

The focus should be on.- How fast can you iterate.- How fast can you deliver value to your stakeholders .- Working style of your team.- Nature of your product or services . and then you work up. Also be open to continue iterating on your processes as well.

I would like to emphasize being agile is not equal to doing scrum or kanban. Methodologies like Scrum or Kanban are just tools. Many organizations that I know of use a custom build framework which suits their need, rather than out of the box Scrum or Kanban.

On abstractions, the root cause of most PR arguments! . Summary. When in doubt, don't abstract; when not in doubt, defend your decision.
