Delighted to announce the project website for #BartmannGoesGlobal an Anglo-German collaboration focused on the ubiquitous Rhenish stoneware #Bartmann #Bellarmine jug. Found on archaeological sites or shipwrecks off Western Australia there’s no escaping these German lovelies. 🧵

This cheered me up today. Opened a box and there was this lovely English wine bottle of the 1660s-70s with the applied seal of the King’s Head and the landlord and landlady’s initials S / H E. #Archaeology @MOLArchaeology

And this was my favourite stoneware pot in the Raeren Museum. One hell of a drinking vessel and not for when your grandma comes round. Quite some skill by the potter in making this one ! But seriously, the phallic pot runs through so many cultures and time periods.
