for agented authors contracted w/ a publisher: keep your agent cc'd on emails w/ your editor! You won't always know when things are "normal" vs. messed up. Your agent will, and can step in before you'd think to call them.

Sometimes I re-read publisher rejections of a book I sold that went on to do well as badly-needed proof I am capable of selling a novel to a publisher.
Sometimes I print pages of the novel I'm currently writing on recycled drafts of earlier novels and when I see the other/older side of the page, it's badly-needed proof that I am in fact capable of finishing a book
