Four years ago
@GeneticsSociety
established an 'Early-Career Award'. All four of the awardees to date have been male.
Please join me in nominating some kick-ass female geneticists for this year’s award

I am not for a second suggesting the past awardees are not worthy recipients, they are in fact all incredible!
But, through creating a new award,
@GeneticsSociety
has an opportunity to show future generations that amazing scientists are a diverse set of people 2/3
Obviously, this is not limited to diversity in terms of gender, so let’s together make sure the committee are overwhelmed by an incredible and diverse set of nominees (across all of their awards) this year! 3/3

Same story for the Curt Stern award where since its inauguration in 2001 there has been 24 amazing and worthy awardees, but only 2 have been women which surely cannot reflect the field:

Agree! It's time to see this early career award go to a female scientist! Let's not perpetuate gender disparities. Lots of early career women scientists doing awesome research!

I sit on committee that votes on awards like this. Having noticed that a number of men self-nominated and that there were few female nominees (none were self-nominated) I nominated myself for an award in my field, which I won. Happy to help anyone wanting to give this a go!
