Just an incredible men's 1500m this weekend. So many things played out that I would never have dreamed were possible a couple of years ago. 3:32 prelims. Front running in the wind. Boxed guys looking out of it, then running 52s last laps from lane 2 in a 3:30 race. Nuts.

I think one major factor for the improved performances in distance running by the west, which I havent seen mentioned anywhere, is the significant reduction in partying by the athletes. In the past, only a small minority abstained. Now it's the vast majority.

Tonight we kick off Very Nice Track Club's first ever summer youth programming The next 7 Sundays from 6-7:30pm at Pioneer HS, 1st-8th graders will test themselves over a variety of run, jump, and throwing events. I'm coaching along with kids from the HS.

If someone like Habz can run 3:27.4 having to lead the last 500m, forget anyone going wire to wire for the win in Tokyo. We're going to have 6 guys in 326-27 shape in the final. I predict Jakob skips the 15 this year, and Nuguse ends up leading after a messy 60s first lap.

Track is America’s Opportunity Sport. It’s America’s cheapest & largest HS sport, providing the most accessible pathway to college . Due to the House settlement, many colleges will likely start cutting Olympic sports. We cannot let track be one of them.

GST, with no rabbits, only fueled my theory that super spikes don't really help in negative split races. I've always felt that they've enabled people to get out fast, and hold onto their pace without their form breaking down. Snell, Coe, Cram would have fared well.

Super shoes are really something. The last year I've been running 5-10 miles/week, and now 25lbs over my old race weight. Today in the new Tracksmith version, I ran 12 miles with the VNTC crew, and it felt just like the old days, leading the pack and talking the whole way. Crazy.

I play pickup at the UofM rec center a few nights a week. Last night a guy looks at me like he recognizes me, but can't put a finger on it. He finally comes up and says "Are you Nick. Symmonds".
