There is a reason these provisions are called Hostage laws. They do little to change services, while encouraging non-democratic efforts to control the internet.
This amendment will be a disaster for freedom of expression and Britain's digital sector. It will force tech bosses to be extremely censorious to avoid falling foul of Ofcom and ending up in jail. It will encourage start-ups to base themselves outside of the UK. 🧵
