Utilize Blast & Trackman to provide immediate feedback and track the rounds. In summary, help hitters avoid going into swing mode during training by adding approach to the environment. Approach in plus counts:.Move the bat fast β‘οΈ Hunt the heart of the plate β‘οΈ Do damage.

Cont'd off the example above, lets create an environment that emphasizes hammering heaters in + counts:. Environment: iPitch heaters simulating low 90s w/ mixed locations. Goal: Bat Speed above current avg and swing at heaters in the heart of the plate/take on the edges.

Bringing approach into the mix places hitters into game-like mindsets during training, which helps ensure that what weβre working on in practice shows up on gameday. At the end of the day, environments need to guide hitters towards desired outcomes and show up on gameday.

With that, I think a lot of training environments fail because of the lack of adding approach into the conversation. Ex: Instead of having high velo rounds that are gap-to-gap, tell hitters that they are in a plus count and to hunt the heart of the plate.

As a hitting coach I think itβs very important to make sure hitters don't go into swing mode during training. Machine work has become a huge part of training hitters and for good reason, as hitters need to be challenged to prepare for what theyβre going to see on gameday.
