My favourite thing (which wasn't even on my radar) is `&raw` for constructing raw pointers. This isn't a new kind of pointer, just a new way of making the existing `*` pointers. Making unsafe Rust more ergonomic is really important and this is a great baby step towards that.

Wow, #rustlang 1.82 is a huge release, def checkout the blog post this time around (. Clearly a lot is going in to get ready for the 2024 edition which is pretty exciting.

Where Israel has made peace with its neighbours (Egypt, Jordan, Saudi) things have gone pretty well! Whereas where they haven’t they are continuing to suffer (even as they win militarily, they lose so many lives).

Is Bibi really sacrificing long term security of his people for domestic politics? Does he think he can genocide the whole region? Because even if Israel has an overwhelming military advantage, surely the 1% of attacks which get through over the next 50 years are a bad trade off?.

10 years at the expense of setting back real peace by 50. It’s inviting another dozen October 7ths. I think militarily Israel are extremely smart, but I don’t see how this plays out in their long term favour?.

Even apart from the moral bankruptcy of the current round of attacks, what is Israel’s strategic logic here? Are they hoping for a nuclear showdown with Iran? To drag the US back into the Middle East? Like, best case scenario they are more secure for the next.
