TWO NEWTON POLICE OFFICERS ATTACKED SATURDAY NIGHT AND PUNCHED IN BACK OF THEIR HEADS. ONE OFFICER TEMPORARILY KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AFTER RESPONDING TO A 911 CALL; OFFICERS FORCED TO STRUGGLE WITH SUSPECT AFTER SUSPECT ATTEMPTED TO UNHOLSTER THEIR DUTY WEAPONS.
The Newton Police Department is giving a shoutout and big thank you to Captain Mark Roche who’s retiring after 40 years of service in the Newton Fire Department.
He served the City of Newton honorably and courageously and is a great friend to our police department.

Yesterday, February 8, 2021, just after 7am, a call came in for a cardiac arrest. Off duty, Officer David Schaefer was driving down Cherry Street and saw a man down on the sidewalk.
Officer Schaefer started CPR with responding officer’s Jeremy Fay and Reid Larson assisting.
Congratulations to Detective Bobby Sampson! Yesterday was Detective Sampson’s last shift with the Newton Police Department after 33 years of service. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors and thank you for your decades of service to the City of Newton!
Saddened by the passing of Reverend Howard M. Haywood. Our heartfelt condolences, prayers and sorrows to his family, the Myrtle Baptist Church and the City of Newton. Though his passing is a great loss to everyone, his words, wisdom and light will shine on forever.

Missing Person Advisory: Ten Tang is a 91 year old male who walked away from house on Chase St. this morning at approximately 10:30 am.
He suffers from Alzheimer’s and was last seen wearing a black jacket and walks with a cane. Please contact police if found.

The defibrillator was used and he was revived in scene.
He was then transported to the hospital and is currently being treated. We thank those officer’s for doing a great job in saving that man’s life.

Both officers were transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital and later released. Both officers are sore but recovering.
