Fascinating thread on the process of criminalization of a relatively harmless, apparently useful, culturally important, and plant-based "drug". Thanks for teaching me something new @DanaLarsen !.
1/X THREAD ON OPIUM TEA. A mild opium tea called "doda" was widely sold in Canada until 2009. Doda is made by grinding dried poppy heads & stalks into a powder, then adding hot water. I can't find any first-hand media reports of social problems or crime arising from doda use.

Hey look at that! An anti-stigma message that both challenges stereotypes associating substance use with certain groups only AND acknowledges substance use health inequities! (this is surprisingly rare. ).
People who use drugs are more likely to experience difficulties with housing as a result of their criminalisation and social exclusion.
