Honored our Transiting Exoplanet ERS science is featured on the cover of Nature 614 7949. Also grateful they agreed to show a #JWST spectrum. For the record, I tried to get them to show a graphical representation instead of cartoon. That was a non-starter, but I’ll keep trying!

Before we know what life is, we must know what life is not. Giant planets are laboratories for studying the formation & evolution processes that produce the diversity of worlds we see. WASP-39b is the crown jewel of giants so far thanks to #JWST. Vote #WASP39b!.

Producers sometimes ask me who would be good on camera to talk about exoplanet science, but my recs are less likely to be taken seriously w/o examples of prior work online. If you’re interested in SciComm, volunteer for public outreach early and often!.

Over 75 exoplanets will be observed in Cycle 1 alone. Mark Clampin told congress last week that JWST could last 20 years. Perhaps we'll have spectra for >1000 exoplanets by the end. Imagine what we'll learn!.

I like to think #JWST will enable scientific discovery akin to the stellar classifications of the Harvard Computers. But for planets. And the women will get fair pay this time.

With this release, the community will have access to data products, analysis notebooks and best practices published via Zenodo. We hope this will be helpful for writing amazing proposals to use JWST in Cycle 2!

10) Data from different instruments overlap in wavelength and appear to be consistent. We’ll be able to say more when we stitch them all together to yield one continuous spectrum from 0.5 to 5 microns. Expect those results early 2023.

9) We have not yet identified a noise floor for JWST timeseries data. As we average more data together, the precision continues to improve. But a true test will have to come from observations of a brighter star. Stay tuned!.

7) JWST yields unprecedented precision and stability in spectroscopic timeseries data. 8) There are no obvious and/or unexpected systematic errors that limit the interpretation of the data.

6) The telescope and its instruments are performing at or better than pre-launch expectations. This finding is in agreement with the commissioning test on the exoplanet HAT-P-14 b described in Espinoza et al. 2022.
