It’s that time of year! Although you may lose an hour of sleep tonight, it does mean lighter nights and longer walks. ☀️ ⏰

Did you know that walking can help you avoid winter viruses such as colds and flu? A study of over 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once a week or less.

Walking with others is a great way to stay motivated! If you don't have friends and family keen to enjoy the outdoors with you, there will be plenty of walking and rambling groups in your area. Why not head to the Ramblers Association to find a group near you?

What goals have you set for this year? An overall distance goal, to find some new walking routes or something else?

Setting goals is a great way to stay motivated. Try not to set goals that can fail early on. Examples could be walking a few more miles each month, increasing the distance of your weekend long walk or signing up for an event (like the National Forest Trek!)

Adding variety is a great way to keep motivated by getting excited about new adventures. Try forest walks, country parks, canal towpaths and even urban and city walks. You'll be amazed at what you may discover!
