Cracked 1,000 miles run for the year today and couldn’t have wound up at a better spot for it.

Thankful for my colleague's good work on the historic, Reformed approach to sufficiency and its intersection with the use of extra biblical knowledge in counseling. https://t.co/nAAI2uRcBe

"I conclude that some within the Biblical Counseling movement have misunderstood the doctrine of the sufficiency of Scripture, particularly what is meant by material sufficiency." Ken Keathley's discussion of formal & material sufficiency as relates to BC is a must read.

In biblical counseling, unfortunately many have confused “we have all the Bible we need” with “we need only the Bible.”

Excited to see my new article, "I Never Reconcile Friends: The Complementary of Scripture and Common Grace" go live in the Southeastern Theological Review Today. Here I argue that Bavinck's organic motif gives us a theological template as counselors. (Link in reply tweet)

Excited to preach Luke 14:25-35 at Faith Franklinton this week. Don't build a tower unless you know you've got the capital for it. Don't go to war unless you know your army's big enough to win. And don't follow Jesus unless you know the cost is worth it to you.

Great conversation in Counseling Practicum today at SEBTS about using the Scripture redemptively vs using it morally. God’s ethical instructions are for our good. But if we never engage the heart, we miss the Scriptures’ purpose.

Thankful for my crew that sacrificed a weekend to aid and run with me - and for Kate letting me do such crazy things. Looking forward to the next one.

I went searching for my physical/mental limits right now and found it. The climb up Pilot Mountain was stunning but brutal, and the high 80s road sections were no joke.

Last weekend I ran the Pilot Mountain to Hanging Rock ultramarathon. Made it 33 miles before a balky ankle finally said it was time to shut it down. Even though it ended with a DNF, this was my favorite of the 5 I’ve run so far.

Whatever you think of her music, TS' Eras Tour is the highest grossing tour in human history. That doesn't happen by accident. Investing your energy in what's most important to you and saying "no" to other good things allows you to accomplish what matters most.

Make of the source what you will, this is excellent advice. I've said "no" to some speaking opportunities, endorsement requests, etc. because they would mean taking energy away from other professional projects I feel more called to.

"Show her that you value her company, and prefer being at home to being out. Esteem her in the presence of your friends and children. Pray together at home and go to Church; when you come back home, let each ask the other the meaning of the readings and the prayers."

Sitting in Practicum II/III class watching students counsel. And it's undeniable - every semester they get better at engaging with clients, applying the Scriptures, and managing sessions. So proud of their good work and the Lord's blessing on our program here at SEBTS.

Glad to draw this spirit into the world of BC, even as we advance the spirit of carefully reading theologians of the past to magnify our ability to do biblically faithful counseling in the present.

6) These comments are made in a spirit of collegiality, within the context of friendship, by two professors writing in the public sphere. Other disciplines are good at having discussions and maintaining appreciation for one another even when there's disagreement.
