Maybe they made us read The Catcher in the Rye in high school not so that we’d find Holden likable through understanding his plight, but so that we’d understand how fucking annoying we were to everyone around us

Been thinking a lot about Contact lately. Haven’t seen it in years, but it was a childhood favorite and one of my family’s top video store repeats. Need to watch it again very soon.

this is a perspective i strongly dislike in music adding “modern words” to songs is only bad if the writing is bad. Rap & Country thrive on modern imagery, but the myth that Music Must Be Timeless persists in indie/pop. part of why it’s boring to so many people imo
