‘A developed country is not where the poor have cars, but where the rich use public transportation.’ I feel the same can be said for education - where public school systems are so strong there is little need for private interventions. That is what creates equality among classes

Today marks 30 years of my journey with Shaukat Khanum Hospital; a story of hope and generosity of our people. I joined some months after Lahore opened; saw its expansion, then Peshawar, now our 3rd in Karachi coming up. Best reward: Prayers from our patients. Forever grateful!

6 days since my husband, Shahrez Khan, was abducted at gunpoint from our home in front of our little daughters. An innocent man is being targeted in the political victimisation of his family. Pls speak up so he is released on Saturday. His girls are waiting.

The catastrophic flooding predating KP, GB & AJK is obviously triggered by global #climatechange, which is fuelled by rising emissions and warming, but equally so by local institutional indifference to building real resilience for communities and society. The mega monsoon of 2025

Companies celebrating AI productivity gains are unknowingly creating cognitively weaker teams. Employees become dependent on tools they can't live without, and less capable of independent thinking. Many recent studies underscore the same problem, including the one by Microsoft:

BREAKING: MIT just completed the first brain scan study of ChatGPT users & the results are terrifying. Turns out, AI isn't making us more productive. It's making us cognitively bankrupt. Here's what 4 months of data revealed: (hint: we've been measuring productivity all wrong)

My friends in Karachi, family in Islamabad have all heard blasts and drones in the past 6 hours. I am speechless at how insane the ruthless this has become.

Textbooks, transport, clothes, housing - where is this money coming from, all so she can earn some sort of degree which requires her to use a computer? My thoughts are messy at the moment but it’s so disheartening to see people encourage things that are detached from realities…

Think about it. She’s from a poor family. She persists through grade 5. Then grade 8. Then grade 12. By some miracle, she needs a scholarship to attend university. Her parents cannot pay. Where does she get that from? And where does she live? What about other costs?

Digital skills are essential in the current world, but so is social mobility. I can’t tell you how many parents I’ve spoken to who say they would love to educate their daughters, but there are 0 chances of that because of the way society is structured for them

I also wonder in this increasingly digital and isolated age, do we really want to be encouraging putting millions of children who don’t have access to safe drinking water, food, behind screens for ‘digital education’? For what?

In the entire Western world we gripe at students using iPads, screen time… yet in all our digital edu, “AI” programs, we encourage it… Of course, not all, but there’s a deep irony, perhaps driven by colonialism, which wants to mimic something that perhaps isn’t good anymore
