“I wish the World Series was 15 games long. People sometimes talk about shortening the baseball season. I wish we had more of it.” Said it and meant it. 👍 Enjoy Game 4.

This WS really demonstrates why it’s not just spin when we (and the NBA) say length of series matters more than matchup. Average viewership for this series will end up pretty close to NYY-LAD last year, but we got 60% more innings. Makes all the difference.

With the release of final numbers for Game 5 total viewing of the 2025 MLB Postseason across all US networks is now ahead of last year’s total. Not bad for a year when we’ve traded the Yankees for a non-US market in the Fall Classic.

GameDay is a great show and they’re having a big year. You have to tip your cap. On our side Big Noon Kickoff is up +19% in the 11am hour. We like our show too and more total CFB pre-game viewing is a good thing.

For those curious about @CollegeGameDay performance to date this season. Through Week 9 CGD is averaging 2.8M P2+ up 28% YOY. Moreover, despite all the preseason “hype” CGD is beating Big Noon Kickoff by 140% from 9a-END; by 168% from 10am-END and by 128% from 11am-END of show.

1993. Passing through Charleston WV on a long road trip. My guy @PuntKing, working in local radio, says there’s a kid here you’ve got to see. It was 9th grade Randy Moss absolutely dominating a HS varsity basketball game. Never forget it.

The idea that streaming is the way to reach younger fans remains the most stubborn myth in sports media NBA games on broadcast are beating games on streaming by 79% among 18-34s But because broadcast beats streaming by 371% among 55+ the median age mirage persists

NBA starts rights deal with most-watched traditional Opening Week since 2017. (2020 Opening Week included Christmas games) Like its debuts on NFL and NASCAR, Prime Video's NBA debut is smaller -- but younger-skewing -- draw than the other networks:

More Freddie: In Los Angeles, where Game 3 ran late but not *that* late, KTTV was doing a 66 share at the time of Freeman’s walk-off.

Eight million people were still watching Game 3 of the World Series when Freddie Freeman walked it off at 2:45am ET per Nielsen. Remarkably more people were watching when Freeman ended it than were watching at first pitch.

12.5 million viewers across all US networks - English and Spanish - through Game 2. No expectation that this would match last year’s NYY-LAD matchup. LAD-TOR beating every Fall Classic from 2020-2023. Good start and good scenario tonight.

There are only two types of TV: linear and on-demand. @koblin breaks down how live events are taking over the linear world of broadcast television. https://t.co/HuyBPH0h2W via @NYTimes

Spin of the year award goes to the ACC which came up with this impressive sounding story by excluding THIRTY FIVE games that did not air on rated networks. In similar news I’m now the highest-paid person in media (excluding people not sitting in my office right now).

It’s hard to argue that the state of MLB is anything but very strong, although for some reason plenty of people seem to like to try. Enjoy the World Series. Dodgers in 6.

Chances are if the World Series goes five games or more, total viewing of the entire postseason in the U.S. will be up vs 2024. That would be a good story when you’ve traded the Yankees for Toronto in the World Series.

And while the postseason isn’t the most important indicator, the ratings story has been good. Total viewing of the postseason is up +17% through the LCS. That’s clearly more than you can chalk up to this year’s Nielsen methodology changes.

Every TV partner was up in regular season viewership, and it’s more fair to gauge the sport on a sample of ~2500 games than on a sample of 4-7 that is heavily matchup-dependent.

League-wide attendance went over 70 million this year for the third straight year. Baseball doesn’t get enough credit for being the dominant sport in live gate revenue. It’s an enviable position for a future in which live experience will be more valued.

If World Series ratings aren’t the right metric for assessing the health of baseball, what is? I would say it’s league-wide attendance and regular season ratings.

That said, I like this matchup. Of the 225 possible World Series matchups I think this is in the top 50, though maybe just barely. While it can’t match last year’s best-case matchup, it seems like a good candidate for a long, competitive series.
